Leslie Odom, Jr. is acclaimed as a multifaceted Tony and Grammy Award-winning artist who has received three Emmy nominations and two Academy Award nominations. His talents span various genres, making him a notable figure in Broadway, television, film, and music. Recently, Odom made his much-anticipated return to Broadway, not only starring in but also co-producing the celebrated new production of the classic American comedy, Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, by the iconic Ossie Davis. This production, which debuted in September 2023, garnered significant critical acclaim and earned Odom a nomination for Lead Actor in a Play, contributing to the play’s six nominations overall. Additionally, Purlie Victorious was recorded and aired as part of PBS’s Great Performances series.
Odom’s film and television work continues to amaze audiences, as he recently starred in the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic film, The Exorcist, produced by Blumhouse and Universal Pictures. He also appeared in Rian Johnson’s 2022 sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which achieved record-breaking viewership on Netflix. His portrayal of legendary singer Sam Cooke in the award-winning Amazon film adaptation of One Night in Miami…, directed by Regina King, showcased his remarkable talent; his performance of the original song “Speak Now” earned him critical accolades and numerous award nominations.
Odom’s significant body of work includes notable performances in The Many Saints of Newark, a prequel to the renowned HBO series, The Sopranos, and his breakout role as ‘Aaron Burr’ in the blockbuster musical, Hamilton. He also hosted “The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!” on CBS, earning a 2022 Emmy nomination. His additional film and television credits include Central Park (for which he received an Emmy nomination), Hamilton on Disney+, Abbott Elementary, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Love in the Time of Corona, Harriet, and many more.
Further showcasing his creative talents, Odom co-wrote his first children’s book, I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know, in collaboration with Nicolette Robinson, which was published by Feiwel & Friends on March 28, 2023. The book entered the New York Times bestseller list at #7 in its debut week. As a BMG recording artist, Odom has released five full-length albums, with his latest, When A Crooner Dies, scheduled for release on November 17, 2023.
