Participants will learn how to create beautiful plant designs on silk at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Eco printing involves imprinting images of leaves, plants, and flowers directly onto protein fibers using a water bath process. In this workshop, attendees will create their own unique, beautiful, and colorful designs on a silk scarf with plants they bring from home. All skill levels are welcome!
Recommended plants to bring include leaves from the surrounding area, with an emphasis on high tannin leaves such as oak, maple, rose, hickory, sumac, and blackberry. Fun additional plants, usually store-bought, include eucalyptus and colorful flowers such as carnations and Gerber daisies. Thick, woody plants or those with waxy leaves, such as camellia and magnolia, are not recommended. In addition to the plants for eco printing, participants should also bring their own apron or smock. Gloves will be provided.
