Dinosaur Plaza
Fernbank’s Dinosaur Plaza includes a variety of features, offering plenty of outdoor space with a fountain, plants, trees, and flowers.
The centerpiece of the plaza is a family of bronze dinosaurs poised to greet visitors—many of whom are families as well—upon their arrival at the museum. The dinosaurs represent a hadrosaur species known as Lophorhothon atopus, which once inhabited the region that is now Georgia.
Fernbank is the first museum to ever feature a display of Lophorhothon atopus. These sculptures are part of an outdoor exhibit that includes information about the dinosaurs, their prehistoric environment, and their inferred behaviors, such as the care they provided for their young.
Visitors can check out Flickr for special behind-the-scenes photos as well as images documenting the arrival and installation.
