Art After Loss is a supportive, discussion-based program designed for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. This four-week series is hosted in the galleries of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and invites participants to gather in community to explore works of art that address the complexities of the human experience. Under the guidance of museum staff, participants engage in thoughtful conversations about artworks that reflect themes of memory, identity, connection, resilience, and transformation. The program encourages close looking, reflection, and shared dialogue, allowing participants to explore their own responses to art while connecting with others who share similar experiences of loss.
It is important to note that Art After Loss is not a formal support group or therapy program. Instead, it provides a welcoming space where grief can be openly and compassionately acknowledged through the lens of art. Participants work together to discover how artworks and the stories of artists can inspire reflection, offer new perspectives, and create opportunities for connection, insight, and meaning-making.
Registration and parking for this event are free of charge. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Stools and assisted listening devices will be available during the in-gallery conversation.
