About Chef Davis King
As an Atlanta native, Davis King blends his Southern roots with classic French technique and Italian flair as Chef de cuisine of Inman Park’s beloved seafood den Beetlecat.
Restaurants have fascinated him since a young age, when his mother and grandmother bribed him into doing errands by letting young King pick the restaurant they’d dine at afterward. His mother never worried about him watching “bad TV” because he only watched the Food Network. He even started a culinary club at school in 8th grade.
During a pivotal trip to New Orleans when he was 13, he dined at Commander’s Palace and can still remember the meal he had to this day. He began cooking professionally while attending Brevard College in North Carolina.
King’s Atlanta resume is extensive, with roles at Seven Lamps, Bacchanalia, and The Optimist. He also opened Biggerstaff Brewing Company and Alici. King returned to Ford Fry’s Rocket Farm Restaurants in 2023, first at King + Duke, before making it to Beetlecat.
At Beetlecat, King is focused on encouraging his cooks to be the best they can be and creating a positive and professional work environment. He emphasizes cooking with the seasons and technique, always telling his team that less is more, but when there is less on the plate, every detail matters.
When he’s not in the kitchen, King enjoys spending time with his partner Misha, playing board games (he has a collection of over 100!), and caring for his 11 rescue cats.
