Since Peter Rabbit first scampered through Mr. McGregor’s garden and onto the pages of Beatrix Potter’s storybooks in 1901, her enchanting tales have captivated millions of children worldwide. The adventures of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, among others, form only a part of her enduring legacy.
Helen Beatrix Potter, born in London in 1866, was a town mouse yearning to embody the spirit of a country mouse. Her deep passion for animals and the natural world sparked a renowned career as an author and illustrator, but it also propelled her into roles as a farmer, natural scientist, and preservationist. Her determination to create a meaningful life resulted in significant achievements across both art and science. This exhibition at The High Museum in Atlanta explores Beatrix Potter’s creative pursuits, highlighting her talents in illustration, scientific observation, narrative building, and preservation, and inviting visitors to discover the boundless creativity, imagination, and curiosity of the woman behind the beloved tales.
