Fernbank Forestry Day

Visitors to Fernbank Museum will have the opportunity to interact with forests in a meaningful way during Forestry Day. This event will allow attendees to explore the relationship between humans and forests through engaging demonstrations and hands-on activities, whether they realize it or not!
Smokey Bear – Great Hall
Guests can meet and take pictures with Smokey Bear during his pop-up appearances throughout the day.
Georgia Forestry Commission Fire Team · Dinosaur Plaza
Attendees will have the chance to get up close with real wildfire-fighting equipment and even meet wildfire fighters from the Georgia Forestry Commission.
Warnell Drone Lab · Periodic demonstrations throughout the event
Did you know that drones are used in forestry? Attendees are invited to discover how and see the drones in action, presented by the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources.
International Society of Arboriculture – Great Hall
Guests can meet representatives from the International Society of Arboriculture, which works with tree professionals, homeowners, and the public to promote the economic, environmental, and societal benefits of trees and the importance of their care.
Nature Walks with EcoLogic · Meet at the Treepod, WildWoods • 11:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m.
EcoLogic is a habitat rehabilitation company that utilizes nature-based solutions to restore local biodiversity. Participants can join for a guided walk in WildWoods, offering a chance to view the native habitat and explore forest artifacts.
Gopher Tortoise Encounter with the Chattahoochee Nature Center – Great Hall
Visitors can see a live gopher tortoise and learn from a Chattahoochee Nature Center naturalist about the forest habitat it relies on.
Save Georgia’s Hemlocks – Great Hall
Attendees can learn about Eastern Hemlocks and the threat posed by the Woolly Hemlock Adelgid.
Birds Georgia – Treepod, WildWoods
Visitors can check out Birds Georgia to learn basic bird identification and how to support native birds every day.
Georgia Native Plant Society – Great Hall
Attendees can chat with members of the Georgia Native Plant Society to discover more about native plants and the importance of maintaining habitat biodiversity.
Project Learning Tree – Great Hall
Participants can see how trees and forests serve as windows to the world through engaging activities offered by Project Learning Tree for all ages!
Wild Nest Bird Rehab – Great Hall
Attendees can meet Wild Nest Bird Rehab to learn what actions to take if they encounter an injured bird and the significance of collaborating with certified rehabilitators.
