Rooted in Resilience: Designing for a Regenerative Garden – Atlanta Botanical Garden

This three-part workshop at the Atlanta Botanical Garden offers participants the opportunity to learn how to cultivate a sustainable garden, tailored to various climates, budgets, and experience levels. The workshop focuses on the three pillars of regenerative landscaping, using real-life case studies and practical techniques rooted in permaculture.

Participants will explore how to:

  • Support pollinators such as bees, birds, and butterflies
  • Grow herbs, fruits, and vegetables
  • Build healthy soil from the ground up
  • Capture and store water naturally for enhanced drought resilience
  • Address pest issues by understanding their root causes

Designed for both seasoned gardeners and newcomers, the workshop aims to provide essential tools and inspiration for transforming outdoor spaces into abundant, eco-friendly ecosystems.

Session 1: Groundwork & Vision | Wednesday, September 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

This session focuses on establishing the foundation for a resilient garden by identifying the unique opportunities and constraints of the site. Attendees will learn to observe, map, and plan with intention to ensure the design harmonizes with natural processes.

Session 2: Water Wisdom & Soil Health | Wednesday, September 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

This session covers methods for working with natural systems to conserve water, prevent erosion, and regenerate soil health. Practical techniques that enhance fertility and resilience from the ground up will be discussed.

Session 3: Plant Selection & Ecological Design | Wednesday, October 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Attendees will learn how to select the appropriate plants based on climatic conditions and personal goals while supporting pollinators and enhancing visual appeal. This session integrates layered design strategies that promote food production, habitat creation, and overall enjoyment.
