At the High Museum in Atlanta, this workshop focuses on the technical and material properties of paint as it interacts with various mediums and surfaces. Participants will begin with a brief visit to the exhibition Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, where they will explore Esther Mahlangu’s abstract paintings, paying close attention to her materials and techniques. After the visit, they will return to the studio to create their own color patterns using geometric and free-form shapes inspired by observation or imagination.
In the studio, attendees will delve into color mixing, paint application, and layering techniques to produce abstract paintings with acrylic paint. They will have the opportunity to experiment with a range of surfaces, including wood panel and canvas, in order to develop vibrant and engaging compositions. Instructor Daniel Mantilla will provide guidance throughout the workshop, culminating in a session where participants will share their completed works with one another.
