Event Title: Celestial Perspectives – A Solo Exhibition by Jess Self
Join us for an installation-based exhibition of textile artwork by Jess Self, transforming the Terri Strickland Cole Galleries into a multi-dimensional portal. Celestial Perspectives features intricately hand-woven pieces that resemble the pulsing code of the Matrix, acting as both a cosmic map and a textile labyrinth. This immersive installation invites viewers to explore and engage with the symbolic language of color, material, and form while navigating through veils and figures, contemplating the delicate boundaries between timelines, histories, and selves.
About the Artist:
Jess Self is a sculptor and educator based in Decatur, GA. Her work delves into materiality, archetypes, and cultural narratives using mediums such as wax, wool, wood, and textiles. By blending craft traditions with storytelling, Self’s figurative sculptures reflect on spirituality and the human experience. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from Georgia State University and a BFA from Warren Wilson College. With a portfolio of national and international exhibitions, her accolades include the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant and the Hudgens Prize Finalist Award. In addition to her studio practice, she teaches at the University of North Georgia, offering courses in textiles, sculpture, and design, and fostering an appreciation for craft in contemporary art.
