The High Museum of Art in Atlanta will host the national tour of Amy Sherald’s mid-career retrospective, marking the largest exhibition of her work to date. This exhibition will showcase a diverse array of paintings created from 2007 to 2024, including many of Sherald’s most recognized pieces as well as rarely seen works from throughout her career.
Amy Sherald, born in Columbus, Georgia, has significant connections to Atlanta and the High Museum. She trained as a painter in the city and graduated from Clark Atlanta University. In 2018, the High Museum awarded her the annual David C. Driskell Prize in African American Art and Art History, which recognizes the importance of African American art on a national level. The museum also presented The Obama Portraits Tour in 2022, which featured her notable portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama.
