The Star Gallery, featuring Our Place in the Cosmos (NEW!)
Visitors can explore the origins of our universe beneath a twinkling display of stars representing the Georgia night sky in Our Place in the Cosmos, a new addition to Fernbank’s Star Gallery. For millennia, stargazers from ancient and modern civilizations have observed the constellations and shared their knowledge through stories and song. Astronomers now utilize technology to build on the knowledge of their predecessors.
Guests are invited to behold a large-format, dramatic short film illustrating the birth of our universe, solar system, and planet. They can engage with displays and touchable models surrounding the video to learn how astronomers have enhanced our understanding of space, illustrated the various celestial bodies that populate outer space, and explored the ways humans have been inspired by their observations throughout history.
Attendees can try out their stargazing skills by finding well-known constellations, including Orion, the Big Dipper, Hercules, Scorpius, Pegasus, and Leo in the Georgia night sky, using a diagram in combination with the Star Gallery ceiling.
