The Star Gallery, featuring Our Place in the Cosmos (NEW!)
Visitors can explore the origins of the universe beneath a twinkling display of stars representing the Georgia night sky in Our Place in the Cosmos, a new addition to Fernbank’s Star Gallery. For millennia, stargazers from ancient and modern civilizations have observed the constellations and shared their knowledge through stories and song. Astronomers now utilize technology to build on the knowledge of their predecessors.
Guests can behold a large-format, dramatic short film illustrating the birth of the universe, solar system, and planet. They can engage with displays and touchable models surrounding the video to learn how astronomers have built human understanding of space, illustrate the various celestial bodies that fill outer space, and explore how humans have been inspired by their observations throughout history.
Attendees are encouraged to try out their stargazing skills by locating well-known constellations, including Orion, the Big Dipper, Hercules, Scorpius, Pegasus, and Leo in the Georgia night sky, using a diagram in combination with the Star Gallery ceiling.
