Saturdays at 10 a.m.: The Fuqua Conservatory lobby at the Atlanta Botanical Garden hosts a public frog feeding event. An amphibian specialist will present the feeding behaviors of frogs while sharing interesting facts and answering questions from attendees about these remarkable creatures.
Public frog feedings offer visitors the opportunity to witness one of the most fascinating aspects of amphibians – their feeding techniques. Frogs possess long, sticky tongues that extend rapidly to catch prey. Some species, such as Poison frogs, execute this action with remarkable speed and precision, resulting in flies seemingly vanishing in an instant. In contrast, the fringed leaf frog employs a more theatrical approach, using its hands to stuff crickets into its mouth.
