Community Bulletin: Adaptive Kayaking Program
In partnership with Catalyst Sports, an adaptive kayaking program is being offered, providing opportunities for individuals to experience kayaking with greater independence while enjoying the natural surroundings.
The program is staffed by lead instructors trained in ACA Adaptive Paddling, who can modify kayaks with additional equipment to meet various needs. The facility features a dock equipped with a ramp, transfer seat, and kayak launch to facilitate access to the river.
Participation in the adaptive kayaking program requires adherence to the following ACA Essential Eligibility Criteria:
- Paddlers must be able to breathe independently, without the use of medical devices.
- Paddlers should be capable of maintaining sealed airway passages while underwater.
- Paddlers must be able to hold their head upright without neck or head support.
- Paddlers need to manage personal care either independently or with assistance from a companion.
- Paddlers should manage personal mobility either independently or with reasonable assistance.
- Paddlers must follow instructions and communicate effectively either independently or with assistance from a companion.
