The Marietta History Center is excited to announce the opening of its significant 30th-anniversary exhibition, “Marietta History Center at 30.” This retrospective highlights the museum’s journey from its founding in 1996 to its current role as the hub for history in Marietta and Cobb County, located within the historic Kennesaw House.
The exhibition is structured into four chronological chapters, reflecting the museum’s growth over three decades. In addition to a timeline of key events, the exhibit provides a unique insight into the museum’s inner workings, showcasing essential concepts like the role of volunteers and the process for accepting artifacts into the permanent collection.
A special focus of the exhibit is the Kennesaw House itself. Originally constructed in the 1840s as a cotton warehouse and later converted into the Fletcher House hotel, this building notably withstood the Civil War and the burning of Marietta. “Thirty years ago, we began a new museum in this historic landmark,” says Amy Reed, Museum Director. “By starting the museum in this space, we ensured that the building’s history would be preserved alongside the artifacts we house.”
This anniversary exhibition celebrates thirty years of preserving our collective memory and underscores our commitment to being stewards of the stories that define us. The celebration aligns with our mission to ignite curiosity in Marietta’s history by connecting people through compelling narratives and engaging experiences. We invite the public to join us in honoring our past as we anticipate the next thirty years of discovery.
