The High Museum in Atlanta, since acquiring its first photograph in 1973 and establishing its photography department in 1993, has consistently worked to enhance its collection of photographs. This collection showcases the history of the medium while reflecting the culture and era in which the pieces were created. Culminating years of strategic development, the upcoming exhibition New Acquisitions: Photography will feature works that are being displayed for the first time at the museum. This exhibition aims to celebrate the extensive variety of photographs within the institution’s collection and highlights the artistry involved in curating a collection. Prominent photographers included in this exhibition are Dawoud Bey, Rahim Fortune, Nikita Gale, Martine Gutierrez, Richard Learoyd, Baldwin Lee, Catherine Opie, Ed Panar, Susan Worsham, among others.
