The Marietta History Center is pleased to announce the opening of its landmark 30th-anniversary exhibition, “Marietta History Center at 30.” This retrospective exhibition explores the museum’s journey from its founding in 1996 to its current role as Marietta and Cobb County’s hub for history, located in the historic Kennesaw House.

The exhibition is organized into four chronological chapters that reflect the museum’s development over three decades. In addition to a timeline of key events, the exhibit offers a unique insight into the museum’s operations, showcasing the significance of volunteers and the processes involved in adding artifacts to the permanent collection.

A highlight of the exhibition is the Kennesaw House itself, originally built in the 1840s as a cotton warehouse and later transformed into the Fletcher House hotel. This historic building notably survived the Civil War and the destruction of Marietta. Amy Reed, Museum Director, states, “Thirty years ago, we began a new museum in this historic landmark. By starting the museum in this space, we ensured that the building’s history would be protected alongside the artifacts we house.”

This anniversary exhibition celebrates thirty years of preserving our collective memory and reaffirms our commitment to stewarding the stories that define us. We invite the public to join us in honoring our past as we look forward to the next thirty years of discovery.
