Community Bulletin: Adaptive Kayaking Program
In partnership with Catalyst Sports, an adaptive kayaking program is available, providing participants the opportunity to enjoy the natural environment while promoting independence on the water.
The program features lead instructors certified in ACA Adaptive Paddling, who are equipped to modify kayaks with additional equipment to meet diverse needs. The dock is designed with a ramp, transfer seat, and kayak launch to facilitate access to the river.
To participate, kayakers must meet the following ACA Essential Eligibility Criteria for Adaptive Kayaking:
- Paddler must breathe independently (no medical devices required).
- Paddler must maintain sealed airway passages while underwater.
- Paddler must hold head upright without neck or head support.
- Paddler must manage personal care, independently or with a companion’s assistance.
- Paddler must manage personal mobility, independently or with reasonable assistance.
- Paddler must follow instructions and communicate effectively, independently or with assistance.
