Community Bulletin: Adaptive Kayaking Program
In partnership with Catalyst Sports, an adaptive kayaking program is now available, offering individuals the opportunity to engage in kayaking while experiencing nature. The program prioritizes independence and adaptability, ensuring participants can enjoy the water comfortably.
The lead instructors are trained in ACA Adaptive Paddling and are equipped to modify kayaks with additional equipment to accommodate various needs. The dock features a ramp, transfer seat, and kayak launch to facilitate easy access to the river.
Participation in the adaptive kayaking program requires individuals to meet the ACA Essential Eligibility Criteria, which include:
- The paddler must be able to breathe independently without the assistance of medical devices.
- The paddler should be able to maintain sealed airway passages while submerged underwater.
- The paddler must be able to hold their head upright without neck or head support.
- The paddler should be capable of managing personal care independently or with assistance from a companion.
- The paddler must be able to manage personal mobility independently or with reasonable assistance.
- The paddler should be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively, either independently or with assistance.
