Artist Biography:
Born in Trinidad and raised in East London, Billy Ocean was inspired by a diverse range of musical influences, including soul legends and iconic rock bands. He gained prominence with his second single “Love Really Hurts Without You,” achieving notable chart success in both the U.K. and U.S. Following a successful stint with Jive Records, he released the double-platinum album Suddenly, featuring the hits “Caribbean Queen” and “Loverboy.” Billy performed at Live Aid in 1985, marking a high point in his career.
Subsequent hits included “When the Going Gets Tough (The Tough Get Going)” from the film Jewel of the Nile and “There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)” from the Love Zone album. After a brief hiatus, he returned to touring in 2007, often performing alongside his daughter, Cherie.
In 2008, he released Because I Love You, followed by the compilation album The Very Best of Billy Ocean, which saw impressive sales. In 2018, he performed at a sold-out Royal Albert Hall and continues to tour internationally, sharing his legacy hits alongside newer material from his latest album, One World.
