Bug Fest

The Bug Fest event at the Fernbank Museum will explore the incredible world of insects through hands-on activities, crafts, and educational experiences, allowing participants to engage with science and discovery.
This event is included with general admission. Members can attend for free.
Activities*
Orkin | Great Hall, 1st Floor & Orkin Discovery Zone, Third Floor
Participants will embark on a bug-filled scavenger hunt in the Orkin Discovery Zone, discovering fascinating insects throughout the space.
University of Georgia: H.O Lund Club | Great Hall, 1st Floor
Attendees will meet live insects, explore real specimen collections, and discover insect science through engaging and interactive methods with the H.O. Lund Club.
WunderGrubs | Great Hall, 1st Floor
This session will feature a demonstration of sustainable insect farming, including a live demonstration of a modular vertical mealworm farm and displays of by-products.
Georgia Pest Control Association | Great Hall, 1st Floor
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities focused on insects, led by the Georgia Pest Control Association.
Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association | Great Hall, 1st Floor
This activity will introduce children to the world of bees through coloring activities, observing a real hive, and learning what to do if they encounter a swarm.
Georgia Department of Agriculture | Great Hall, 1st Floor
This station will include bug trivia, games, and opportunities to meet live insects, including a chance for photographs with Randy the Roach.
University of Georgia Center for Urban Agriculture | Great Hall, 1st Floor
Visitors will explore preserved specimens and the delicate patterns of butterfly wings under a microscope while learning about insects.
University of Georgia Department of Entomology | Great Hall, 1st Floor
The Bug Zoo will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet live insects up close and safely hold a few.
University of Georgia Urban Entomology Program | Great Hall, 1st Floor
This session will focus on urban insects, providing participants with a guide to common insect pests encountered in daily life.
Georgia Native Plant Society | Great Hall, 1st Floor
Participants will discover the relationship between insects and native plants, exploring how insects contribute to plant health.
The Three Profiteers | Great Hall, 1st Floor
This presentation will feature a variety of arthropods, offering an in-depth look into their fascinating world.
