In a compelling narrative set in 1939 Georgia, the story follows Cora Cain as she transforms her family’s struggling hotel, The Brunswick, into a sanctuary for Jewish refugee children fleeing Germany. When Thomas Watkins arrives seeking solace after his mother’s death, a bond forms between him and Cora. However, they must confront their pasts and the prejudices of their community as they prepare for the children’s arrival.
Simultaneously, ten-year-old Charlotte in Vienna grapples with her parents’ decision to send her away to safety despite the dangers surrounding her. As the threat of war looms, Cora, Thomas, and Charlotte each face the challenging decisions love demands and what they must sacrifice.
