Celestial Perspectives, a solo exhibition by Jess Self, is currently on display at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art. This installation features intricate textile artwork that transforms the gallery space into a multi-dimensional portal. The pieces, hand-woven using a variety of patterns and techniques, present a visual dialogue that evokes a cosmic map and a textile labyrinth.
Visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to engage both physically and psychologically, navigating between veils and contemplating the connections between timelines, histories, and identities. Jess Self, who resides in Decatur, GA, is known for her exploration of materiality, archetypes, and cultural narratives using mediums such as wax, wool, wood, and textiles. With an MFA in Sculpture from Georgia State University, her work has been showcased nationally and internationally, garnering several accolades.
